Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD (IF)

(7 customer reviews)

The Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD (IF) is a camera glass that is suitable for APS-C cameras. It has autofocus capabilities, but can also be manually focused. The lens has multiple elements and a coating to improve image quality. The aperture is wide, providing a bright image. The build quality is good, but it is somewhat heavy and long. There are alternative lenses available for this type of camera. The lens produces good bokeh and has a high resolution. The manufacturing time for this lens is not specified.

Positive: As an enthusiast photographer who prefers vintage lenses, I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality and overall performance of the Tamron SP AF 60mm lens. It’s a great lens for close-up shots and produces stunning, sharp images. The lens build is solid and feels good in the hands. I also appreciate the fast maximum aperture of f/2, which works wonders in low light situations.

Negative: However, the lens is designed specifically for APS-C sensor cameras, so full-frame camera users will have to look elsewhere. Though the autofocus is quick and accurate, it can be quite noisy, making it less ideal for video recording or shooting in quiet environments. Additionally, the lens does not have image stabilization, so handheld shots can sometimes be shaky.

Conclusion: All in all, if you’re a photographer who mainly shoots stills with an APS-C camera and wants a solid, reliable macro lens, I highly recommend the Tamron SP AF 60mm f/2 Di II LD (IF). It’s a great lens for close-up subjects, portraits, and even some landscape shots. However, if you want a quieter and more stabilized autofocus system, you may want to consider other options.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Full frame equivalent focal length is 90.0 mm. Bright lens thanks to the high aperture value

Physical characteristics

80 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 55 mm commonly filter size, provides a range of filter options. Weights 405 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary.

Excellent slightly older design lens Excellent and unique lens in the APS-C lineup. AF is super reliable, but not super fast. Wide aperture helps with variety of situations and images are sharp and clear.

The only two smalls negatives are lack of a focus limit switch and Optical/Vibration Stabilization.

Great portrait / macro lens!!! I couldn’t be more satisfied with this lens! I was looking for a macro lens which I could double as a portrait lens, but wasn’t happy with the f/2.8 aperture of the regular macro lenses on the market.

Tamron is the only to offer a f/2 macro lens for Canon EOS cameras. And the focal length (60mm) is just perfect for portraits in a APS-C camera (equivalent to 96mm).

I used this lens a lot at the holidays parties. This is a fuc*** sharp lens! Every detail in the subject is evident, from eyelashes to skin pores. It is simply amazing, it is sharp even at f/2. Well, it can be a problem for portraits, since it reveals every single “defect” of the person skin, but just for professional purposes. And extra sharpening is always useful for macro photography.

The bokeh is really really beautiful, very soft and flattering. The f/2 aperture is really welcome for portraits, due to the thin DOF. Colors are really nice, a little bit on the warmer side, but look very real, even when using Auto WB. Construction is very decent, lens robust but it is not heavy. It comes with a good and very useful hood, and Tamron’s lens caps are the best ever.

The downsides are on the auto focus issue. It doesn’t have a USM / HSM focus motor, so auto focus is not super fast, although it is fast enough for most of the situations. Due to the lacking of an auto-focus limiter, it sometimes hunts the focus all the way from infinity to macro distance, which can be a little annoying.

I am very very happy and totally satisfied with this lens, and I would even recommend the Tamron 60mm f/2 macro rather than the Canon 60mm f/2.8 USM macro, which I had before this one. Go ahead and just buy one!

Excellent This lens deserves very detailed praises, for which I do not have time at the moment. Therefore in short, this lens is a real jewel. Very sharp, very reliable, bright, fast, etc. Auto focus is on a slow side as many others noted, I share their thought, but it isn’t a turn off at all to me. When you shoot close up, using auto-focus isn’t very good idea anyway. Additionally, the use for portrait purposes is very rewarding. I use it on both Canon DSLR and interchangeable lens Pro grade HD camcorder. Beautiful bokeh.
