of the Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD IF camera lens. Here’s my take on this lens:

Positives:
1. Image Quality – The Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD IF lens is a great performer in terms of image quality. This lens produces sharp and well-detailed images with great color balance.
2. Macro Photography – This lens can focus down to 1:1 magnification, making it great for macro photography. The large focusing ring on the lens is smooth and precise, making it easy to obtain the desired focus.
3. Build Quality – The lens has a solid and durable build quality. It feels sturdy in hand and has a good weight balance.

Negatives:
1. Autofocus – The autofocus speed of Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD IF is not as fast as some other lenses in the market. However, it’s still accurate and reliable, especially when used with a good camera body.
2. Aperture – The maximum aperture of f/3.5 is not the fastest among the telephoto lenses, which can limit the performance in low-light conditions.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Tamron SP AF 180mm f/3.5 Di LD IF camera lens is a great lens for those interested in macro photography. While it may not be the fastest or the lightest lens out there, its solid build quality and great image quality make it worth the investment. It also comes at a great price point compared to other similar lenses in the market.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Great choice mainly for good light conditions

Physical characteristics

165 mm long, with this size carry only if you use it. Weights 920 grams so it is a heavy lens, consider using its own lens bag. With a lens filter diameter of 72 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter but you can chose from plenty options.

Pretty Darn Close Well, it’s a gem of a lens. Show me another lens which has a non-rotating filter mounting but which allows you to rotate your filter, with a dedicated rotating ring, just behind the base of the mounted lens shade. It also has the “manual, auto-focus” switching built into the focus collar. You (push) click that collar “outward” for “AutoFocus”, and back, “inward”, for Manual-Focus. This is the old fashioned way of doing it, It works well. But the auto-focus is also a bit slow and old fashioned. Adequate, especially for macro, but not up to focus speed compared to modern lenses. It is a wonderful size and weight for it’s focal length, f/3.5 seems a perfect wide open aperture.
The lens is a perfect size and weight for what it delivers: a 24″ working distance for 1″ butterflies and an impressive critical focus which almost hits the highest marks of image excellence. I’m hoping for a modern MKII, as this one is now “discontinued”.

Excellent Long Macro I am quite satisfied with the performance of this lens in the short time I have had it. Very sharp with nice bokeh. A great focal length for handheld spring flower shots although it can be a challenge to manage without stabilization. I have not had a chance to shoot it with my tripod yet but I expect it to do very well. The af is fine. I think if you need to go from close to infinity or the opposite, it will hunt so the key is to select the distance I am shooting at first and not expect to go back and forth instantly.

Sharp for macro shooting. The lens is sharp and produces great photos. It is very well built. The only challenge I’ve had is that it seems to search on autofocus in close range. It will focus out to infinity, then back into the subject, like it doesn’t initially know whether to focus in or out until it goes all the way to the extreme.

Getting the close up shot from a distance. I am very pleased with this lens. I use this lens on my Nikon D7000. I have the Tamron 90mm macro. And this lens is great for shooting from a distance and getting the close up shot I need. Without having to get up real close.
