(7 customer reviews)

The Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro is a camera glass with good resolution and build quality. It has a zoom range of 55-200mm, which is equivalent to 82.5-300.0mm on full-frame cameras. It is a great option for good light conditions and has macro capabilities for close-up shots. The lens has 9 aperture blades, which gives a pleasing bokeh. It has a lens coating to reduce flare and ghosting. The lens is lightweight, weighing 295 grams, and has a filter diameter of 52mm. It is a good option for those who want to carry it in their camera bag. The lens can be used with autofocus or manual focus. It has a good number of lens elements, which ensures good image quality. The manufacturing time of this lens is not mentioned. There are alternative lenses available in the market, but this lens is a good option for those who want a telephoto zoom lens with macro capabilities.

Here’s my review of the Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro camera lens:

Positives:
First and foremost, the Tamron AF 55-200mm lens is extremely versatile. It gives you a moderate telephoto zoom range, making it ideal for portrait, landscape, and sports photography. The macro feature is also a nice touch, allowing you to get pretty close to your subject with detailed sharpness. Secondly, the build quality is solid, making it durable for travel and everyday use. The lens is also lightweight, which makes it easy to carry around.

Negatives:
While the image quality is good for the price point, it’s not exceptional. The lens is known to produce soft images at the longer end of the zoom range. Additionally, the autofocus can be slow and noisy, which can be annoying in certain situations. Lastly, the aperture can be limiting, especially in low light situations.

Conclusion:
Overall, I would recommend the Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro for beginners or those on a budget who want a versatile lens. It’s perfect for those who are just starting out with photography and need an all-in-one lens that won’t break the bank. However, if you are a professional or advanced amateur photographer who needs a sharper lens with faster autofocus, you will need to invest in a higher-end lens.

Optical design

Great choice mainly for good light conditions Has 9 aperture blades, with this amount of aperture blades you will be satisfied with the result. Thanks to the macro capabilities this lens can make tiny things look big. Full frame equivalent focal length is 82.5-300.0 mm.

Physical characteristics

Weights 295 grams so consider putting to your camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 52 mm commonly filter size, gives you a variety of filter options. 83 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag.

Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD with Canon mount for the average DSLR user and for more advanced users/ students, this Tamron lens is a well suited companion to the standard kit lenses. optical quality is the best from what is out there in this price range. the lens is very light and will travel well. Autofocus speed is noisy and comparable to kit lenses in speed, a minor issue if u want to take fast moving action shots, as the lens will not keep up to changes in focus that quickly. plastic camera mount can also be an issue with dust and in outdoor applications. comes with a lens hood, and rotates along with the focus right making polorizing filters a little harder to use. the auto focus will hunt a little in dark situations.
overall a good lens to have along side a standard kit lens. many pros use this lens to scout for locations because of the range they get 55-200mm. and on a 1.6 APS-C DSLR like the Canon Rebel series, that range becomes 88-320 when the same lengths would be used on a full-frame film camera. the draw for this lens is its range and price for quality.

Excellent performer for the price. I got the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD used for half it’s brand new price and I have been very very happy with its performance. I have the kit 18-55 IS lens as well as the 50mm F1.8 lens and when I compare the shots, I can see that the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD gives very good image quality. When stopped down to about 5.6 the Tamron gives images which are as sharp as the 50mm.

Obviously the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD is not a Image Stabilized lens but it’s relatively bright till about 150mm (stays at F4) which means I can use a fast shutter speed.

The contrast and color reproduction is quite good. And the lens build is quite solid. You may not get the high quality of a L series lens but for the price you pay the lens feels quite solid.

Auto focus is fast (but a bit loud) and the zoom ring has absolutely no play in it.

So all in all for the price you pay the Tamron 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di-II LD is a superb performer. Like me, if you have a DSLR and the kit lens it comes with and is looking for a zoom lens and is on a tight budget, you can not go wrong with this lens. There are few of these on ebay (used and new) and both represent great value. As long as the seller has good ratings go ahead and buy this lens with confidence.

Very Versatile Lens and great value! I am a beginner DSL user but this lens is awesome. It is very versatile so I don’t even change to my 18-55mm lens. Maybe as I get more experience this lens will not be as useful to me but right now it pretty much works for everything I do with it. I have it on my Canon Rebel T3. The only negative is that it is a little heavier than my other lens so I have a hard time keeping it steady.
