Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro A061

(7 customer reviews)

Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro A061 is a versatile camera glass that can cover a wide range of focal lengths from 28mm to 300mm. It can be used for different photography genres like landscape, portrait, and wildlife. It has a macro feature that enables you to take close-up photos of small objects. The lens has multiple glass elements that help in producing sharp and clear images. The lens coating helps in reducing lens flare and ghosting. The build quality is good, and it can withstand regular use. The autofocus is fast and accurate, but it also has a manual focus option for more precise control. The aperture range is from f/3.5 to f/6.3, which is suitable for most lighting conditions. The bokeh, or the quality of the out-of-focus areas, is decent, but not exceptional. The lens is compatible with different camera brands, but you need to choose the right mount for your camera. There are other alternatives in the market, but this lens is a good option for those who want a budget-friendly all-in-one lens. The lens was manufactured a few years ago, but it is still a viable option for those who want a versatile lens without breaking the bank. The resolution is good, but it may not be as sharp as some of the more expensive lenses in the market.

Sure, here’s my review of the Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro A061 camera lens:

Positives:
– Excellent zoom range that covers a wide variety of focal lengths, from wide-angle to telephoto, making it very versatile for different shooting scenarios.
– Lightweight and compact design that makes it easy to carry around and use for extended periods of time.
– Affordable price point compared to other lenses with similar features.
– Decent macro capabilities for close-up shots.
– Sharp images with good color reproduction, especially when stopped down to f/8 or smaller apertures.

Negatives:
– Variable maximum aperture that decreases as you zoom in, making it less suitable for low-light situations or shallow depth-of-field shots.
– Some distortion and vignetting at the edges of the frame, especially at wide-angle settings.
– Slow autofocus in low-light conditions or for fast-moving subjects.
– Build quality could be better, with a plastic mount and no weather-sealing.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro A061 is a good all-in-one lens for photographers who value convenience and versatility over ultimate image quality or speed. It’s a great travel companion for capturing a wide range of subjects without having to constantly change lenses. However, if you need faster apertures, better build quality, or more precise autofocus, you may want to consider other options.

Optical design

Thanks to the macro capabilities this lens can make tiny things look big. Has 9 aperture blades, with this amount of aperture blades you will be satisfied with the result.

Physical characteristics

Weights 420 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary. 83 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 62 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter you may want to use a step-up ring and 67 or 77mm filter.

    Tamron 28-300mm XR DI is a great walk around lens. Tamron’s DI series lenses are made for the digital SLR. There is a visible difference using this lens over Tamron’s early model of the same focal length. I own a good number of lenses but because of the range this one covers it is my lens of choice when I am not sure what I will encounter. I have several good shots of bugs and flowers allowed by how close the lens focuses. The 300mm end is good for birds, people and sports. The 28mm end is a little long for some of the indoor shots I need. This lens is a little slow on the focus once you have gotten used to an AFS lens but if you have the money Tamron’s latest version has the internal focus motor. This is the lens I have on my camera a very high percentage of the time.

    Lens that good for starter Pros:
    * Compact, short & light
    * Vibration Compensation works well
    * has lock to prevent creeping while not using
    * Hood is included
    * wide body – feel professional
    * tested sharp up to 200mm
    * smooth and better handling on manual focus barrel than 70-300 nikkor since the focus barrel is on the far end of lens. Nikkor 70-300 is heavy and located near the base.

    Cons:
    * slow zooming – not good for fast action sport
    * soft above 200mm
    * lens view moves when zooming – probably purchase a defective one.
    * lens motor noisy as appose to nikkor 70-300 VR.

    Overall, this lens is excellent for easy nature shooting.

    Surprisingly good lens for the price. To be honest I wasn’t expecting too much from this lens, as I got it very cheap, and it is after all a super zoom (where the trade off for the wide range 28-300mm) is usually much poorer image quality than either a prime lens, or a zoom lens with a much shorter range, also with the f3.5-6.3 didn’t fill me with confidence, but as I needed a full frame lens for my D700 with greater reach than my 70-210mm, so I thought I would give it a go, and I must say I’m quite impressed with the image quality I have achieved with it, especially at each end of the range, the macro images are much sharper than I was expecting, and the moon photos are very nice (See the attached images shot with Tamron AF 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR Di IF A061 on my Nikon D700)
    Now for the bad news, focusing is slow and noisy, and the F-mount is plastic, and if you point it down the zoom will extend under the force of gravity, BUT all those things pale into insignificance when you get nice images, you will need plenty of light, but on a bright sunny day it can perform well above its price bracket.

    Still waiting to turn in the first roll of film shot with this lens. I would purchase from this seller again. I’ve only had the opportunity to use the lens with one roll of film, I’ve been busy. Works okay with my N90s but auto focus is noisey.
    Now that I’ve owned this for a while and had an opportunity to use it, I’d probably not buy this lense again for use with a film camera. It works fine in bright sunlight but not so good at night with and without a flash. Used it at Indian Wells and the US Open in Flushing and photos weren’t close to the photos I took with my Sigma and Nikon lenses.

    Tamron 28-300 I have used this lens (borrowed from a family member who will need it back soon – sniff) for well over a year and absolutely LOVE IT! It brings you up close to the action and gives great picture opportunities! It’s lightweight and doesn’t cause blurred pictures. Be careful when zooming not to get trigger happy and click the picture while you are still adjusting the lens, as that will get blurred pics, but that’s operator error. This lens MAKES my camera~ I haven’t used the lens that came with my SLR since I got this lens. I highly recommend it!!!
