Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS

(7 customer reviews)

The Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS camera glass is a high-quality lens with good build quality. It has a fast aperture of f/1.8 which allows for a shallow depth of field and great bokeh. The auto focus is fast and accurate, making it a great option for portraits and other types of photography. The lens has 7 elements which are coated to reduce glare and improve image quality. The manufacturing time is unknown, but it is likely that it was made with care and precision. The resolution is good, producing sharp images with good contrast. There are alternatives available, but the Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS is a solid choice for those looking for a high-quality photographic lens.

Positives:

  • Firstly, this lens is an excellent portrait lens. It provides sharp, clear images, with beautiful bokeh. The f/1.8 aperture works well to create a shallow depth of field effect, which is perfect for isolating your subject and creating stunning shots. Additionally, the optical image stabilization (OSS) technology used in this lens helps to reduce camera shake, allowing for even sharper images, especially in low light conditions.
  • Moreover, when paired with Sony’s A6500 camera, the eye-auto focus feature is incredibly efficient for portraits. It can track the subject’s eye and maintain focus, which is particularly useful when shooting in motion or low light situations.

Negatives:

  • Unfortunately, this lens is not very versatile. While it’s a great portrait lens, it’s not suitable for shooting wide-angle shots or landscapes. Also, the build quality is somewhat plasticky and may not be as durable as other lenses in the same price range.

Conclusion:

Overall, the Sony E 50mm f/1.8 OSS camera lens is a great buy for anyone looking for a quality portrait lens. It’s compact, affordable, and delivers excellent image quality, particularly when used with the A6500 camera. While it has limited versatility and may not be the most ruggedly built, it’s still a fantastic choice for photographers looking to capture stunning portraits.

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Full frame equivalent focal length is 75.0 mm. Wide open, subjects located outside the depth of field are shown very blurred.

Very good stabilized walk around lens Plenty sharp, stabilization seems effective, nice size and value. Focus is accurate and fast enough for me. A very good walk around lens for the a6000.

A bit large for a 50 mm I am happy with this. Focus is sharp and quick. OSS works well. It seems precise and well made. It seems large, but this may be because my new mirrorless camera is so small.

Amazing lens at a good price The fact that this a f/1.8 lens makes the bokeh of this lens really good. The image separation from the subject is amazing. The image is a little bit soft but sharp enough for most of uses.
