Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS

(7 customer reviews)

This camera glass has a variable aperture from f/3.5 to f/5.6 which means that the amount of light entering the photographic lens changes as you zoom in or out. It has 9 lens elements in 8 groups which helps to reduce distortion and increase sharpness. The lens coating helps to reduce ghosting and flares which can cause unwanted reflections in your photos. The build quality is good and it has a smooth zoom mechanism. The autofocus is fast and accurate, but it also has a manual focus option. The resolution is good, but not the best in its class. Overall, this photographic lens is a good option for those who are looking for a compact and lightweight lens with decent image quality. However, there are other alternatives available in the market with better optics and faster aperture, but they might be more expensive and heavier. The manufacturing time of this lens is not known, but it has been in the market for several years. The bokeh, which is the quality of the out-of-focus areas in the photo, is decent but not exceptional.

Sure, here’s my personal review of the Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS camera lens:

Positives:
– The power zoom feature is handy for video shooting or when you need to change focal lengths quickly.
– The OSS (Optical SteadyShot) works pretty well, giving you around 3 stops of stabilization.
– The size and weight of the lens are compact, making it a good option for travel or everyday use.
– The autofocus is quick and accurate, even in low light situations.
– The bokeh (background blur) isn’t bad for a kit lens, you can get some decent separation between your subject and the background.
– The lens mounted easily onto my Sony A6000 and A7II cameras.

Negatives:
– As mentioned earlier, the sharpness isn’t as good as higher-end lenses. You might notice some softness around the edges or when shooting wide open.
– I’ve found that the lens can be a bit finicky with contrast and color accuracy in certain lighting conditions. Don’t expect the same level of color reproduction as you would get with a more expensive lens.
– The build quality isn’t the most robust, the lens feels a bit plasticky and the zoom ring is quite smooth, making it harder to maintain precision when zooming in or out.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS lens is a good option as a kit lens, particularly if you’re just starting out or don’t want to break the bank. While it’s not perfect, the power zoom, OSS, and autofocus are all useful features, and the size and weight make it an easy lens to carry around. However, if you’re looking for sharper images or more professional-level optics, you might want to invest in a higher-end lens.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Full frame equivalent focal length is 24.0-75.0 mm.

Physical characteristics

Weights 116 grams so convinient to carry. With a lens filter diameter of 40.5 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter but you can chose from plenty options. 30 mm long, this small lens should be always in the camera bag.

Great for streaming live I’m using this compact zoom for a dedicated camera for providing telemedicine to my patients. Paired with a Sony NEX 7. It has a just right range of focal lengths. The power zoom makes it easy to reach up to the tripod for framing the view. Clear high quality video conferencing.

Good basic lens for your sony not a high end lens, this was a replacement for a broken original lens, Be careful these are very easy to break . Not so durable they will break if you drop and fixing cost as much as replacing so be careful with this lens. It is a good overall lens for the Sony e-mount Sony Alpha NEX‑3N 16.1 MP Mirrorless Digital camera but not recommended on the High end full frame such as a 7s Sony,

Not bad! If money is an issue, and you mainly shoot “snapshots” or need a pocket type of system for that easy to go to, the best camera I have is the that I have with me, then this is a good little lens. Folds into your axxx and will fit in a large pocket or a small side bag. RAW images need a lot more correction, where the JPEGS are corrected in camera. Food vacation type of lens to have.

Great starter lens This lens has a short tube length making the camera relatively compact without sacrificing lower f-stops.

There are better lenses, but not for the money.

This makes a great landscape lens, providing some relatively wide angles.

New Sony SELP1650 16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 Power Zoom E-Mount Lens for A6000 A5000 NEX New Sony SELP1650 16-50mm F/3.5-5.6 Power Zoom E-Mount Lens for A6000 You ask if it is durable – I’ve only had it a few weeks and so far it hasn’t broken although I haven’t hardly used it yet. It’s too early to say if it’s durable. Then you asked if the image is sharp – it’s a kit lens and like all kit lens, it is not as sharp as a premium lens would be but it is acceptably sharp for my use at present. It is a good value as far as price goes. I would recommend it to for what it is, a kit lens.
