Sony DT 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 SAM

(8 customer reviews)

The lens has a good build quality and is made with quality glass elements that provide good resolution. The lens coating helps reduce reflections and flare, making the images look better. The lens has an aperture range of f/4.5-5.6, which is good for outdoor photography but may not be suitable for low light conditions. The lens has an autofocus system that works well, but it also has manual focus capabilities. The lens is a good alternative for those who want a budget-friendly option compared to other high-end lenses. The lens has a good bokeh effect, which makes the background look smooth and creamy. The manufacturing time of the lens is not mentioned.

Sure thing! Here’s my enhanced review:

Positives:
– A great complement to the SAL-1650 standard lens, giving users a wider zoom range for more versatile shooting.
– Surprisingly lightweight and well-balanced on the SLT-A77Q Sony camera, making it easy to handle and use.
– Reasonably good in low light but could be better on the minimum f-stop.
– Correctable aberrations through camera firmware, resulting in sharp, fringe-free, and distortion-free photos.
– Excellent addition to any photographer’s gadget bag for quick interchanges.
– Quick and quiet focus, especially in decent light, making it great for everyday photography.

Negatives:
– Could use improvement in low light performance, especially when it comes to the minimum f-stop value.
– Some minor aberrations may still appear, but they can be easily corrected using camera firmware.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sony DT 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 SAM camera lens is a reliable and versatile option for photographers who want to improve their shooting range. While it may not be the best in low light conditions, its lightweight design, minimal aberrations, and quiet focus make it a great choice for everyday photography. Add it to your collection for an extra boost in versatility! As a vintage lens enthusiast, I appreciate Sony’s commitment to innovation and design when it comes to their camera lenses.

Optical design

Full frame equivalent focal length is 82.5-450.0 mm. Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle.

Physical characteristics

Weights 460 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary. 116 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 62 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter you may want to use a step-up ring and 67 or 77mm filter.

Accurate. The smoothness of auto-focus and quietness of focus is excellent. The unit itself is also light and well constructed. I understand that this unit is no longer being produced as Sony moves to a different type of lens system. Too bad.

Everything you want in a single lens High quality lens for a super-decent price. Doesn’t fail to capture wide- or telephoto pics. Even has a lock for setting your focal length.

Great 55-300mm Zoom Lens for Sony Alpha Mount Cameras like the Alpha 57. This Sony SAL55300 55-300mm lens is just a great piece of equipment for an Alpha Mount camera by Sony. I have a Sony Alpha 57 Digital Single-Lens Translucent (DSLT) Camera. (DSLT is a Sony DSLR type of camera.) This SAL55300 is an interchangeable lens for the a57 and like alpha mount camera. It goes on and off my a57 without any problems. The Auto-Focus (AF) works fast and in general all a57 features work without any problems whatsoever. It takes sharp pictures at all ranges. It comes with a lens hood that can be stored inverted on the lens as well as with a front cap and a rear body cap. It takes 62mm filters, and I have put a UV filter on mine to further protect the lens. Overall, I am very happy with Sony’s SAL55300 lens.

I wanted a Sony brand lens and this fits the bill This doesn’t look like it was ever touched by anyone. It is as new as it can be and works just as it should. I wanted something with a little more versatility but still able to take great pictures and this does that. Nice to be able to deal with a reputable business and get great service with a great product. Good buy.

A good complement to the SAL-1650 standard lens .. This lens continues where the SAL-1650 standard lens leaves off on the SLT-A77Q Sony camera. Very light compared to it’s size, well balanced on the camera. Could be a bit better on the minimum f-stop, but still good overall in low light. Any minor aberrations are correctable with the camera firmware, so pictures are sharp, fringe free and distortion free for the most part. An excellent extra lens to keep in the gadget bag for quick interchanges. Quiet focus and quick in decent light.
