Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II

(8 customer reviews)

This camera glass contains 11 photographic lens elements arranged in 9 groups, which provides decent resolution and image quality. The lens coating helps to reduce ghosting and flare, which can occur when taking photos in bright light. The build quality of this glass is decent, but not exceptional, so it may not be the best choice for rugged outdoor use. The aperture range is f/3.5-5.6, which is sufficient for most shooting conditions. The manufacturing time of this lens is not specified.

There are alternatives to this lens, such as other zoom lenses or prime lenses, which may offer different focal lengths or apertures. This lens has autofocus capabilities, but it can also be used in manual focus mode if desired. The bokeh, or the quality of the out-of-focus areas in a photo, is decent but not exceptional.

Overall, the Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II lens is a mid-grade option for photographers who want a versatile zoom lens with autofocus capabilities. It provides decent image quality and resolution, but may not be the best choice for rugged outdoor use.

Positives:

– Affordable: The current price for the lens is quite good, especially if you opt for a used version.
– Produces natural colors: The lens is great for situations where you don’t want to use a flash, as it produces natural-looking colors and avoids the dreaded red-eye effect.
– Better than telephoto: The review author finds this lens to be more fun and useful than their telephoto.

Negatives:
– While the lens is versatile and affordable, it may not be the best choice for professional photographers who require more nuanced options.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sony DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM II is a great choice for those seeking a versatile second lens. Excellent Value I bought a Sony a6000 with 55-210 zoom. Later I found out I take a lot group shot specially on the cruise. I bought this 18-55mm lens recently. I got a very good pictures out of this lens. I used this to take some close-up pictures for my online listing. The pictures come out very sharp from this inexpensive kit lens. I owned some dSLR camera and lenses, but I love this lens.

OOPS, mistake to buy this one…. Bought this as a gift for my son’s Sony a6000, but discovered that I’d need to get an adapter which costs 3-4 times more than the lens. I feel this is deceptive and that it should’ve been mentioned to non-professional photographers like me who wouldn’t know that.

Excellent package! I loved my previous lens and then broke it. I was worried about purchasing a lens via online sight unseen, but got the new lens in good time and it works great! I’m very happy with the purchase and may buy another one for a back-up as this was such a great value! Thanks for getting me back on track with my photo shooting!

Simple and easy to use This is a standard lens for the Sony Alpha range.
Weather it be in the middle of the night or day this lens will take quality photos.
Light trails and star photos come out looking crisp with minimal noise.
This is a nice all rounder lens to use for beginner photographers to study the basics.

First choice second lens. More fun and useful than my telephoto. This is perfect for my application. Great for taking photos of my art and beautiful for outdoors and close ups too. If you are a pro you know what you need, but if you are looking for a second lens and not sure what to get consider this lens. It is fun and adapts to many different conditions. It is especially useful in low light situations where you don’t want to use a flash. (No red eye and nice natural colors.) I have an excellent telephoto lens, but I use this a lot more. For the current price (very good used) it is a bargain.
    You will enjoy this lens.
