Used Lens seems to work well This was a used lens purchased to replace similar lens that I had purchased new 4 years ago and which no longer focussed. So far I am satisified with the product..seems to work as well as the older lens.

I love the 18-250 zoom which enables me to use single lens for landscapes as well as telephoto for shooting wildlife.

Sony DT 18-250 mm f3.5-6.3 I carry this lens and shoot in outdoor, covering wide angle and scenic photos. This is one lens I need to travel. Very versatile and easy to carry around. Ratively sharp in between f8 to f16 range. Need to adjust depth of field on wide aperature for sharpness. Good value lens.

Great work horse lens with some image quality compromises. I am an amatuer photographer. I got this lens because I wanted an all in one lens. I was tired of switching between my telephoto setup and wide angle. Sometimes, there are great pictures to be captured at both wide angle and telephoto, but the oppurtunity is lost by the time you have switched out lenses and get ready to shoot again. The other issue is equipment. I cannot afford to have multiple fancy DSLRs to be prepared for every possible shooting scenario. Besides who wants to lug all that gear around all day anyway.

That’s where the SAL18250 comes in. One lens covers all the way from wide angle to good telephoto. No lens switching, no tons of gear to haul. Just up and ready to shoot 98% of the shooting scenarios I need with just a rotation of the zoom ring. Very nice and I am very happy with the lens. I am not sure how I managed without it. For the convenience, this lens is worth it although it is a bit pricey. There are competitors that offer similiar lenses, but I am unsure how their performance stacks up.

The lens is a solid performer. The autofocus is quick and snappy over the entire zoom range and in a variety of lighting conditions. The lens is solid but not overly heavy and feels balanced while shooting. The manual focus ring glides smoothly and allows precision focus easily. The zoom ring is a little meatier and does not rotate as easily, but this also prevents unintended zoom drift.

My main critique of the lens is image quality. This is not to say that the lens takes bad pictures. I have had the lens for a month and have taken lots of pictures that I am very pleased with. However, you can be a generalist and do lots of things adequately or you can be a specialist and do one thing well. This lens is a generalist. It will take good pictures over a wide range of zooms and shooting conditions. However at either end of the zoom range, pictures tend to be less sharp than other lenses which are dedicated to that section of the zoom range. Also because of the wide zoom range, there are faster lenses out there. If you are shooting where maximum apeture is important (ex: freezing action in low light, etc.), this may not be the best choice for that particular task.

Best shooting techniques can overcome some of the image quality differences from more specialized lenses, but some limitations are inevitable when designing a lens to function over the widest operating range possible. As long as you are aware of this upfront, no problems. Also, depending on what you are using the images for you might never notice or care about the small differences in image quality.

I plan to continue using this as my go to, all purpose lens until it stops working (hopefully many many years from now).

Versatile lens is an excellent choice for users who prefer optics all-in-on Versatile lens is an excellent choice for users who prefer optics all-in-one “. Widest 14-fold range of focal lengths from 27 to 375 mm (35 mm equiv.) Allows us to successfully use this lens for shooting landscapes, spacious, and portrait photography, for indoor and outdoor for shooting architecture , sports, and wildlife in their natural habitat. The lens is the perfect complement to any digital camera range Sony Alpha. The compact size and low weight make it a desirable model for the acquisition of travel photographers, as well as for those who do not wish to burden themselves with a large collection optics.

If you wanted one lens to do it all. This is it! Lightweight, compact, less noisy than a Tamron and faster to focus … with an 18-250 zoom, that’s what the Sony Sal 18-250mm lens delivers. Size wise, it may look like a Tamron but there are inherent differences.

This is the perfect lens for the Sony alpha series cameras. It certainly out performs the lens kit (18-70 + 75-300)that Sony offers with it’s cameras. The lens kit is doesn’t focus as well as this lens. The 75-300 is considerably heavier, too. I don’t understand why Sony doesn’t offer this lens in a kit with the a350 and a700. If you take a lot of photographs of varying subjects, this lens is worth every penny. As a travel lens, it’s unbeatable. For family events, unbelievable. For just about everything else… more than satisfactory.

The color rendition of this lens is more on par with Minolta/Sony than the standard 18-70mm lens that comes with many of the newer Sony DSLRs. Focus, sharpness, and just about everything else is a lot better than the standard kit lens. I sold my 18-70mm and 70-300MM lens after I got this one and I’m glad I did.
