Sony Carl Zeiss 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 DT Vario-Sonnar T*

(7 customer reviews)

This camera glass has a high-quality build and produces sharp images with good resolution. It has a range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto, making it a versatile photographic lens. The lens elements are coated with a special T* coating to reduce glare and improve contrast. The autofocus is fast and accurate, making it easy to capture sharp images. The bokeh, or the quality of the out-of-focus areas, is also good. This lens is a good alternative to other mid-range zoom lenses, and it is suitable for a range of photographic situations. It is a well-made lens that should last a long time with proper care. The aperture range is f/3.5-4.5, which is average for this type of lens. Overall, this camera lens is a good choice for photographers looking for a high-quality zoom lens for their APS-C camera.

Positives:
The lens is outstanding in terms of quality. The photos I’ve taken with this lens on my Sony a77ll are incredibly sharp and clear. The T* coating on the lens also does an excellent job of reducing flare and ghosting, which means that images under bright light conditions come out naturally without any artifacts. The lens’s build quality is also impressive, with a solid feel and smooth operation.

Negatives:
The lens’s aperture range is not ideal for low-light photography, and the bokeh could be better. The lens is also on the heavier side, which might be an issue for some people.

Conclusion:
The Sony Carl Zeiss 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 DT Vario-Sonnar T* lens is a fantastic all-around lens. It offers great versatility with zoom range, which works well for landscape, portrait, and street photography. The lens’s quality and build are impressive, and you can rely on it for capturing sharp and vibrant images. Despite the minor drawbacks, the positives outweigh the negatives, and I would recommend this lens to any photographer looking for a quality zoom lens.

Super sharp lens for the a350 I really like the sony Alpha 350 for it’s resolution and live view. I have been quite happy with the kit lens that comes with it, the Sony 18-70mm, but to take full advantage of the camera’s 14 meg. resolution I read on the web about the Zeiss lens. I finally got one and now see the difference this class of glass makes! The zoom, 16-80mm, makes this lens practical for just about every photo opportunity I encounter. The detail that the lens captures has my Canon and Nikon friends wondering about their systems. My camera is quite big and heavy now but I do not mind, This lens is great! Sorry about the macro though… not great. But if you are looking for a very sharp, general purpose all-round premium lens go for this one you will not be disappointed.

Zeiss legend lives on I have always wanting to acquire this lens since I have always been a Sony DSLR camera owner. What a lovely, sharp, crisp pictures it produces every time shutter is pressed! Beautifully takes portraits too at 50mm focal length. Recommeded to the all Sony users!

BEST!! This is the best lens…on many counts, Its the cheapest in the Zeiss line up and the most versatile. 16mm (24mm eqv) is a good wide angle and the next moment u can shoot at 120mm eq…there is no other lens to beat this versatility. There is the Sony 16-105, but cant compete with Zeiss in Image quality. Pictures are sharp, vibrant, gr8 contrast and saturation…so good that I do not need any post processing. On a 24 MP sony A65, using the 2X digital zoom makes it a 10X zoom lens and to my surprise THERE IS NO LOSS OF QUALITY in the 2X CROP!!!! this remains on my camera 99% of the times. I use the 50mm minolta f1.7 only in low light. All other times, this lives.

Exceptional performance at a realistic price. If your are seeking that extra fine definition in your personal photographs, that contrasts noticeably from other more pedestrian optics, the Zeiss offering for Sony cameras, may be your answer. As serious photographers, we look to utilize all the capabilities of our knowlege, and the cameras ability to deliver an outstanding image. But in the final anlysis, the factor that is constant for excellence, is the need for superiour optics. In this task, the Zeiss glass has no peers. It delivers! The 16-80mm offering by Sony, offers this perfomance at a reasonable price. I highly reccomend this versitile lens for the discriminating shooter, as they will see the difference.

Sony/Zeiss 16-80 lens For years Zeiss has always had a magnificant reputation for their quality lenses. I’m thrilled to have purchased on Ebay the Sony/Zeiss Sal-1680Z zoom lens. The quality is outstanding; my photos w/ my Sony a77ll are super–great clarity and sharpness.
