Sony AF 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5

(7 customer reviews)

This camera glass provides a versatile range of focal lengths for photographers who want to capture both wide-angle and telephoto shots. It has a good build quality and is made of high-quality glass elements that provide sharp and clear images. The lens coating reduces glare and ghosting, which can improve image quality. The autofocus system is fast and accurate, making it easy to capture sharp images. The aperture range of f/3.5-4.5 allows for good depth of field control and low light performance. The bokeh, or the quality of the out-of-focus areas, is decent but not exceptional. This photographic lens is a good alternative to other similar lenses on the market, but it may not be the best choice for professional photographers who need the highest level of performance. The manufacturing time of this lens is not known, but it is likely to have been produced in large quantities to meet demand. Overall, this lens is a good option for photographers who want a versatile zoom lens with good image quality and autofocus performance.

Positives:
– Excellent walk around lens for Minolta/Sony A mount auto focus cameras.
– Compact and lightweight.
– Sharp image quality.
– Provides a versatile focal range, making it a good all-in-one lens.
– Auto focus is quick and reliable.

Negatives:
– Slightly slower maximum aperture compared to other similar lenses in its class.
– Bokeh can be a little bit busy in certain lighting conditions.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sony AF 24-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens is a great choice for anyone looking for a versatile walk around lens for their Minolta/Sony A mount auto focus camera. It’s compact, lightweight, and provides sharp image quality throughout its focal range. While it may not be the fastest lens in its class, it still delivers reliable auto focus performance. The slight drawback with the bokeh can be overlooked. All in all, this lens should be considered for anyone looking for a do-it-all lens.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Average brightness in this league

Physical characteristics

Great lens for sony If you are on a budget this is a great lens. I use it on a full frame Sony a850. It is sharp but it’s drawback is some serious vignetting at wide angle, esp at larger apertures. Can fix in post; this isn’t ideal but is dealable given that the vignetting is an issue on many full frame lenses. The even cheaper Minolta 28-85 is much better for the vignette but the detail and sharpness is really lacking on that budget lens.

This lens is great for portrait but not for images needing great details. I bought the lens to supplement my Minolta 28~75mm F2.8 D lens as the Minolta is missing the wider end and longer reach on my Sony A65.

In terms of IQ, it is no where near the 28~75 especially if you are a “pixel peek-er” (comparing at 28~50mm, my copy is lousy after 50mm for the 28~75mm lens). But the 24~105mm is no doubt a good lens and will serve you well. The bokeh is good and it has some quality which is unique, the image capture has a bit of a painting feel to it.

It will work well as a portrait lens, especially so when the image needed is not as details it gives the face a “soft feel” hiding all the imperfections. If I use the Minolta 28~75, all the details of the face is captured and seemingly, some people does not like it. The 24~105mm will even lose to the older Minolta 35~105mm in terms of details.

If you do printing, it will not disappoint you in terms of the picture quality since you will not pixel peek, but the size of print will not be that big if you need details.

Has a good range The construction is probably average, and it can at times seem too much like a plastic toy. The range is good and in general the center is always sharp. There is falloff toward the edges but again, it is partly a function of the cost. A great price for this range, it is as good as the 24-75mm $1500 buck Sony. With an adapter it is fine on the Sony a7r. Excellent when considering the price to performance ratio.

A classic DSLR lens still creates great images Nice original Minolta Maxxim A mount lens
On a Sony DSLR it is approximately 36 – 160 mm lens (1.5 for APS-C)
Great as an all around lens
Metal mount and “heftier” the the current lenses due to amount of metal in the lens
Close focus to .5 meters (1.5 ft)
Like most of the Maxim lens it was a top level lens
A great lens for a Sony A mount camera
