Miles ahead of the earlier versions and the competition. Super fast, accurate and quiet focusing. Images are tack sharp from wide open.

The latest coatings, internal focusing motor and weather protection makes the extra $1,000 worth it.

A note of caution: this lens will not auto-focus with the older, Minolta (except D version) teleconverters, as the lens has its own focusing motor. I had to buy a new set, that adds another grand to the affair. Fortunately, the new Sony TC’s are backward compatible (except for 200mm/f4 macro).

Excellent description It is a fantastic lens, when the weather warms I will give it a more vigorous test. I am trying to see if I can replace my prime lenses on extended trips with 3 variable focus lenses.
