Sigma DG 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM

(7 customer reviews)

The Sigma DG 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM is a high-quality camera glass that is suitable for full frame cameras. It has a wide aperture which allows for a shallow depth of field and creates a beautiful bokeh effect. The lens can be used with autofocus or manual focus depending on the user’s preference. It has 9 lens elements that are coated to reduce flare and ghosting. The lens is well-built and has a good resolution. It takes time to manufacture this lens to ensure its high quality. There are alternatives to this lens, but the Sigma DG 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM is a great option for those looking for a high-quality photographic lens.

Positives:
As a fan of vintage lenses, I have to say that this lens is truly impressive. It has become one of the best 50mm lenses I’ve owned and used. The Sigma DG 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM lens is the perfect prime lens for the normal range, providing a very natural-looking perspective. The image quality is sharp from edge-to-edge and there are no noticeable flaws, making it an excellent lens for portraits, landscapes and everyday shooting scenarios. The fast f/1.4 aperture makes it perfect for low-light conditions and its incredible bokeh adds a wow factor to your shots.

Negatives:
One potential downside of this lens is that it is quite heavy – surprisingly bulky for a prime lens – which can be a challenge for some photographers who prefer lighter gear. However, as a reviewer who doesn’t mind the weight as long as the quality of the lens is up to my standards, it’s definitely worth it for the results you can achieve.

Conclusion:
Overall, I highly recommend the Sigma DG 50mm f/1.4 EX HSM Camera Lens to any photographer looking for a high-quality prime lens. Despite being a bit of a heavyweight cow compared to some other primes, it delivers excellent results that are hard to beat. If you are looking for an all-around 50mm lens that will take your photography to the next level, this is it.

Optical design

Has 9 aperture blades, with this amount of aperture blades you will be satisfied with the result. It is a ring-type ultrasonic motor designed to provide quick and silent focusing. Wide open, subjects located outside the depth of field are shown very blurred.

Physical characteristics

Weights 505 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary. 68 mm long, this small lens should be always in the camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 77 mm this lens deserves a good quality filter, this is commonly filter size, gives you a variety of filter options.

Amazing performer in XL clothing Excellent lens, sharp at wide open apertures as others have mentioned. Whether you will notice this extra sharpness compared to a decent prime (like the Nikon f1.4mm AF-D or AF-S) really depends on many other factors: your technique, the conditions, the size of the print or screen etc. And it is big and heavy, it must be said. I am glad I bought this lens, but will not be selling my 50mm AF-D since it is so much more travel-friendly.

The ART lens is a masterpiece! The Art series of lenses from Sigma are making quite a splash for both their build quality and optical performance, and this 50 mm 1.4 is stellar in both areas. It is a weighty item, four ounces shy of 2 lb, but I honestly didn’t notice that when I mounted it on my camera. The resolution/sharpness is astounding. Shooting my bookcases, hand-held at f8 at at just over 20 ft, I was able to read the title and author in the spine of a paperback. This lens is a beautiful piece of kit.

Fantastic lens at a great value This lens is super sharp, produces highly useable images even at wide open (F1.4)

Focusing is fast and acurate. Construction quality is top notch (though a bit on the heavy side)

Great lens for general portraits, pets or kids.

Only wish it had image stabilization, then it would be a perfect lens.

This lens costs less than half of Nikon 58mm F1.4 or Canon F1.2, and out performs both of them. Did I mention that the bokeh on this Sigma 50mm F1.4 ART is delicious?!

Phenomenal Lens/Exceptional Low Light Performance I have many fast, sharp lenses, including several considered best in class for their focal length on a Nikon body. None of them compare to the sharpness and unbelievable low light performance of this Sigma 50mm f1.4 HSM DG Art lens. I highly recommend this lens. It’s in a class of its own.

Best 50mm I’ve ever had Just about the perfect prime lens in normal range. Love it but it like alot of specialty fast primes is a heavyweight cow. I’ve owned Nikkor 50 1.4,1.8 Ai-s 50 1.4 1.8 D and 50 1.4 G. Still have 1.2 Noct.
Sigma somehow made a fast prime that beats all but noct. But noct was a special lens for an isolated use.
And this is about the same size as Nikkor 24 f 1.4 , which is the best fast wide you can put on a Nikon.
Both are ridiculously sharp edge to edge and no flaws at all.
