(7 customer reviews)

This camera glass, Sigma DC C 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 OS HSM Macro, is a versatile lens that can zoom in up to 300mm, making distant objects appear closer. It has a motor that can automatically focus on the subject and has a macro feature that can capture tiny objects. The lens has 7 aperture blades that can produce a circular out of focus area. It has a filter diameter of 72mm and is 101mm long, which can affect portability. It weighs 585 grams, so it’s not the lightest option. The lens is designed for APS-C cameras and has a full-frame equivalent focal length of 27.0-450.0mm. It’s a mid-grade lens that can produce good quality images, but it’s best used in good lighting conditions.

Positives:
– Great value for money.
– Versatile 18-300mm range eliminates the need to switch lenses frequently.
– Good performance in terms of sharpness and color production.
– Ability to shoot macro shots.
– Optical stabilization (OS) system works well in reducing camera shake.
– Surprisingly lightweight.

Negatives:
– The maximum aperture of f/3.5-6.3 may not be sufficient for low light situations.
– Autofocus performance could be improved.
– Some distortion at the wide-angle end of the lens.

Conclusion:
The Sigma DC C 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 OS HSM Macro lens is a great all-in-one solution for photographers looking for a versatile and lightweight lens. While it may not be the best option for low light or advanced autofocus situations, it still offers great value for its relatively affordable price tag. Highly recommended for amateur photographers or hobbyists looking for a reliable all-around lens.

Optical design

Full frame equivalent focal length is 27.0-450.0 mm. It is a ring-type ultrasonic motor designed to provide quick and silent focusing. Great choice mainly for good light conditions Thanks to the macro capabilities this lens can make tiny things look big. Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle.

Physical characteristics

Weights 585 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary. With a lens filter diameter of 72 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter but you can chose from plenty options. 101 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag.

Super lens for my EOS Rebel T6i I switched from film to digital about 15 years ago and have used “point-and-shoot” cameras until obtaining the Canon EOS Rebel T6i. I enjoyed the “zoom” abilities of the point-and-shoot Canon SX50 HS but decided to upgrade knowing I would obtain the Sigma lens for the new camera.

The kit lens that came with my new Canon EOS Rebel T6i are good lenses but…I did not like to carry 2 lenses or change lens when wanted more telephoto capability. Also wanted more “zoom” than the kit telephoto lens had. The Sigma images are a little sharper than the kit lenses are but was not a critical issue for the upgrade from the Canon lens to the Sigma 18 to 300 mm lens. The zoom action is smooth, no rough/tight spots when zooming out or in. Have not needed to use the “lock” switch on the lens, does not “zoom out” when carrying the camera with the lens pointing down.

This lens is sharp enough so that I can photograph birds at 300mm, then crop the image and have a “closeup” of the bird that’s equal in size to a 50X image from the old camera but has sharper details. That is the capability I expected from this camera/lens combination and am extremely pleased.

For months I checked every online review that I could find for this type of lens, chose Sigma, am very pleased with all aspects of its performance. Very happy with the lens, have NO cons to report!

EXCELLENT lens. For a do-it-all, walk around lens, you can’t beat this thing. Fast AF, SHARP images and, surprising good IQ and AF performance in low light. If you have the Sigma USB Dock, you’re going to really love it, as you can update the firmware whenever you need to.

Good all-around all-purpose lens Sigma makes good glass, yet not quite the same as the excellence of German lense. As an all-purpose lens it has proved itself to remove the hassle of multiple lenses and more weight to haul around. I use this as my primary lens for most any photographic assignment unless it has to do wit portraits and fine detail; for that I use my prime German lenses.

Well worth the price. Reasonable cost, light weight, and the images are tack sharp. Great travel lens when vacationing with the family. Wife tried it on her camera and I ended up buying another one.

I’m still learning but I loved it the minute I pot it on the camera. Great lens for the money. I’ll be checking for filter lenses very soon. Love not having to switch lenses all the time. And it’s not as heavy as I thought it would be
