Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 Macro

(8 customer reviews)

The Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 Macro is a versatile camera glass with good optics and resolution. It allows for macro photography, making small objects appear larger. Its autofocus feature makes it easy to use, while its manual focus option provides more control. The lens has multiple elements and coatings to improve image quality. It has a variable aperture, meaning the amount of light it lets in can change depending on the zoom level. The build quality of the lens is good, and it is designed to last a long time. There are alternative lenses available, but this one offers a good balance between price and quality.

Positives:
– Takes beautiful, sharp images
– Perfect for the Canon EOS system
– Great for video
– Compatible with other DSLR or mirrorless camera systems with the appropriate adapter
– Image stabilization prolongs battery life
– Smart electronic adapter by CommLite works well with Sony a6000

Negatives:
– Auto focus not as fast as native Sony lenses

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 Macro camera lens is an excellent addition to any lens collection. It takes beautiful, sharp images, is great for video, and is perfect for the Canon EOS system. While the auto focus may not be as fast as native Sony lenses, the lens works well with the Sony a6000 with the right adapter. Unfortunately, the lens has been discontinued, so if you can find it, it’s definitely worth adding to your collection.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Full frame equivalent focal length is 25.5-105.0 mm. Thanks to the macro capabilities this lens can make tiny things look big.

Physical characteristics

Weights 455 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary. 82 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag. With a lens filter diameter of 72 mm you are one step from the next standard filter size, buy step-up ring and bigger filter but you can chose from plenty options.

Love it! I really like the lens…does great for my need…can’t beat it for the price…I have taken a lottttttt of photos with the lens…BUT what I have taken I’ve been rather impressed…again considering the price I paid for the lens…so yes…I’m enjoying the lens and would recommend others who may be on a slight budget like myself to try this lens out. I don’t think you’d be disappointed.

excelente lente precio calidad Muy buen lente para amateur, funciona muy bien com mi EOS 7D, si bien no es tan luminoso, es muy bueno para sacar fotos de retratos a personas que estan lejos.

Get it and add to you lens collection, you will not regret it. Too bad Sigma discontinued this awesome lens. Its perfect for the Canon EOS system. It takes beautiful sharp images and awesome for video.

I use it on my Sony a6000 with an smart electronic adapter by CommLite(my honest opinion, way better than the overpriced Metabones adapters). Auto focus works but not as fast as the native Sony lenses. Image Stabilization only starts when half pressing the shutter button(smart feature to prolong battery life).

I recommend you to find this lens ASAP and add it to your collection. Works very well with Canon EF mount system, and definitely operational with the appropriate adapter(highly recommend CommLite brand) to any other DSLR or mirrorless camera system.
