Sigma AF 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye

(5 customer reviews)

This camera glass has a unique fisheye effect, producing a distorted image with a 180-degree angle of view. It has 12 glass elements in 7 groups, which helps to minimize chromatic aberration and distortion. The lens coating is designed to reduce ghosting and flare when shooting in bright light. The build quality is solid and durable, making it a good choice for outdoor photography. It can be used for both autofocus and manual focus, depending on your preference. The resolution is sharp and clear, producing high-quality images. There are alternatives to this photo lens, such as the Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8G ED AF DX Fisheye Lens or the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens. The manufacturing time is not specified but it is a well-known and established lens. The aperture value of f/2.8 allows for a bright image even in low light conditions. Overall, this photographic lens is a good choice for those looking for a unique and creative effect in their photos.

Sure, here’s my review:

Positives:
The Sigma AF 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye lens is a great addition to any photographer’s toolkit. The lens is well-built and has a substantial weight to it, which gives it a premium feel. The fisheye effect is unique and provides a fun and creative perspective for photography. The lens captures sharp and vivid images, which make it ideal for landscape and architectural photography. Additionally, the autofocus is fast and accurate, and the lens is compatible with both full-frame and APS-C cameras.

Negatives:
One of the drawbacks of the Sigma AF 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye lens is that it produces a circular image with black edges on a full-frame camera. This can be a bit frustrating for photographers who are not used to working with fisheye lenses. Additionally, the wide-angle of the lens makes it challenging to get rid of lens distortion, which can result in some curved lines in the corners of the image.

Conclusion:
Overall, the Sigma AF 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye lens is a great option for photographers who are looking for a well-built and affordable fisheye lens. The lens produces excellent image quality, and the autofocus is accurate and fast. While there are some drawbacks to using this lens, such as the circular image and lens distortion, these issues can be mitigated with some practice and skill. In conclusion, I highly recommend this lens to any photographer who is looking to experiment with fisheye photography.

Optical design

Has 7 aperture blades, mid-grade lenses usually have this amount of blades. Having rounded blades provides out of focus circle shape closer to a circle. Bright lens thanks to the high aperture value

Physical characteristics

With a lens filter diameter of 86 mm finding lens filters in this range can be expensive consider using Cokin P system if you really need one. 73 mm long, requires consideration if you want to carry in the camera bag. Weights 370 grams so plan ahead, carry only if really necessary.

5 reviews for Sigma AF 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye

Excellent full frame fisheye for full frame cameras… This thing is razor sharp. Lower apertures give some vignetting, but that can easily be corrected via lens profiles in Photoshop. In fact, most of the distortion can be removed as well. I was hoping this would serve as a good substitute for a super wide angle lens, and I was correct.

Distortion can get to be a bit much towards the outer edges, and correction does snip some from both sides of the image, but it’s a great compromise for the price and quality of this lens. Nothing but great things to say about Sigma lenses in general. I will definitely purchase others.

Great lens cheap accessories.. The lens itself is a great lens but the accessory kit is cheap junk that was falling apart as I pulled some of it out of the box..
DO NOT WASTE THE EXTRA MONEY FOR THIS BUNDLE. Just get the lens by itself and save yourself some money. a

Sigma 15mm F/2.8 EX non-DG for Canon For the relatively low cost and the rare application, this puppy does more than the job. Images are sharp for most of the shots. Wide open at F/2.8, center is already very sharp with great corners. Stepped down to above F/4 or more, and you’ll be amazed that something with a 180 degree view can have such good all around sharpness.

Some users might say that at 15mm, a large aperture isn’t quite necessary. I think it’s an added bonus since not only can you shoot at a lowly 1/15th of a second (the usual hand held rough guideline), you get F/2.8.

The only gripe I have with this lens is, like many users, the funky hood and the slow focusing. The lining in the hood deteriorates with time and makes the cup of a hood hard to use. (I removed the gummy lining and squashed the barrle part of the hood into a slight oval shape so it holds onto the lens by a bit of pressure). As for focusing, it is on the slow side, bt shooting landscapes and anything relatively far won’t be a problem because of the focal length.

All in all, it doesn’t quite matter how great or disappointing this lens is since in all honesty, there aren’t that many choices when it comes to AF fisheyes out there anyways… but hey, this one happens to be a good one, even beating the Canon counterpart in many reviews.

Try it out and sell it off after you’re tired of the fishy effects…. this puppy retains its value 😉

Sharp given the nature of fisheye lenses, very lightweight and sturdy. Actually I purchased this lens with a Sony mount however I am
certain the optics are the same for Canon. I recently sold
a Sigma 15mm f/2.8 lens with a Nikon mount. I really liked that lens and tried to find a company to re-fit it for my Sony
alpha 900 and there was no one (including Sigma) that could
do it. This current version is little changed from the one I
purchased in 2001. It is very lightweight, solidly built and
given the extremely radical nature of fisheye lenses I feel it
has very fine sharpness and color rendition. The autofocus is
quick however I usually use manual focus with such lenses
however if you are shooting in dim light the AF is essential
to use. For the price there is no equivalent lens made by any
manufacturer and Sigma seems to specialize in wide angles. I
have owned 3 of them, a 14mm which I used underwater in the
1990’s, a 15mm-30mm mounted for a Canon and the fisheye.

A great little lens Glad to have this lens in the tool box. Has a nice heft and is not cheaply built. Sigma is the only choice if you are looking for a suitable Canon replacement that won’t break the bank.
