Not the best option for macro Keep in mind this is just my opinion after having tried another macro lenses and reversing rings.

The image quality is good, bokeh, etc. The OS is noisy to the point I thought it was broken and I had to validate with Sigma if it was working normally, and it was!

The OS is useless if you are aiming to use this lens for macro, and even the 2.8 aperture. If you are going for a macro lens, get a manual without OS.

A damn good lens! I picked up this lens because I shoot a ton of macro work all year round and have been doing so with the 50mm version for over 4 years the only problem i was running into was how close i had to get to my subjects (I.E bugs, insects, ect.) jumping to this 105mm had made it much easier to get the shot by not having to get as close and the silent focus is a big plus too I also happen to run a commercial studio and I use this lens for portrait work it has stunning details. its a breeze to shoot with.

Sharp Macro Lens I am very happy with this lens. Sharp, quiet, fast auto-focus, and it appears to be well made and rugged. I particularly like the longer focal length compared to a 50mm macro as it provides a better working distance for close up work.

Learning curve A really good lens, just takes a little learning to get used to it after using a 60mm for severa years. Definitely gives a good range of focus.
