Sharp even wide open not like the soft manual Nikkor 35/f1.4 At f1.4 it can split the hair in 2, but have some chromatic aberration. Stop down to f2.0 and you are good to go and enjoy the excellent glass of this lens. Focusing is slow and needs to be refined for more accuracy or you will end up with many blurry images. Not for moving objects, but great for video. Nice bokeh.

SHARPEST LENS I EVER EXPERIENCED. MANUAL FOR PROS. I LIKE I CAN SHOOT ALSO AT A AND P IN ADDITION TO M MODE.
IT SHOWS GREEN LIGHT IN THE VIEWFINDER WHEN FOCUSED, BUT THE RANGE OF GREEN LIGHT IS WIDE, SO IT DOES NOT HELP ME A LOT TO FOCUS. BOTH MY FIRST AND SECOND COPIES BACK FOCUSED.
THEN I REALIZED THAT I HAVE TO TURN THE FOCUS RING UNTIL THE SOLID GREEN LIGHT CHANGES INTO BLINKING TO GET BETTER FOCUS.
THE LENS CAP IS NOT EASY TO PUT ON AND TAKE OFF.
THIS LENS APPEARS INSANELY SHARP, EVEN SHARPER THAN C ZEISS LENS. IT IS A LENS FOR PRO, NOT FOR FOLKS. WELL BUILT.
    HIDDEN TREASURE FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS.
